Jane Mowat: Projects

FLOWER LINES 2000

This was won with a bursary through ‘The Year of the Artist’ Somerset and Dorset in 2000. The project was to plant 3 lines of native plants – betony, yarrow and scabious – the lines descending a hill in curves that crossed each other here and there, over an area of about half an acre. The idea was to allow these lines to flower, and seen from a distance over the summer the lines would appear to shift and change colour, depending on which flowers were blooming.
The plants are now embedded into the landscape and cropped by sheep, so difficult now to distinguish! The area could be isolated from animals and allowed to grow naturally, if the flower lines were to bloom once more. More details from the artist.
